Job Description

Title: Senior Manager, Product Quality

Key Accountabilities:

  • Manage and coordinate MTU engine failure investigations, field tests, and report failures to Rolls-Royce Solutions America Inc headquarters, from a reliability engineering perspective
  • Supervise activities of NALA Labs to ensure goals are accomplished
  • Oversee, provide input and evaluate critical field, production and test failure analysis in concert with colleagues in MTU Friedrichshafen
  • Provide component evaluations to R&D globally as they pertain to Development projects
  • Maintain overtime and attendance records for direct reports
  • Perform administrative functions such as reviewing and writing reports, enforcing rules, as well as administer reports, personnel policies and procedures
  • Define the appropriate investigation process for line call incident investigations consistent with Global Policies.
  • Decide on the relevancy/extent of inspections as well as scheduling of support for COP and production process gap analysis
  • Support technical service in determining which failures are added to the priority list and which failures have to be reported to the headquarters for corrective action in the field.
  • Manage customer concern meetings with internal partners
  • Lead, direct, and evaluate employee’s work, and oversee the development and maintenance of staff competence
  • Initiate capital improvement projects for the purpose of meeting departmental and RRPS corporate objectives
  • Determine the staffing, resources, qualifications, and training required for department personnel to meet department and RRPS corporate objectives
  • Assign responsibilities to department staff in accordance with department and RRPS corporate objectives
  • Assess the performance of personnel and set target agreements
  • Appraise, select and hire Reliability Engineering candidates in collaboration with the Human Resources (HR) department
  • Keep management up to date on status, issues, and pending problems
  • Review financial statements and other performance data to measure productivity and goal achievement
  • Maintain lab equipment and supplies
  • Assess and modify local safety instructions in areas of responsibility
  • Maintain records about NALA engine failures and field test records
  • Collect data for purchasing to support vendor actions
  • Coordinate field investigations on reliability related issues
  • Implement and ensure good health and safety practices are followed
  • Maintain a neat workplace and organized informational files pertaining to project work assignments
  • Promote a compliance culture in area of responsibility, and live the letter and the spirit of the Rolls-Royce Code of Conduct
  • Perform special projects as required.

Basic Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgy, Mechanical, Industrial, or Materials Engineering, and 5 years of experience in Metallurgy, Mechanical, Materials or Quality Engineering; or 9 years of experience in Metallurgy, Mechanical, Industrial, Materials or Quality Engineering.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with heavy duty diesel engine or internal combustion engine failure investigations
  • Proven leadership skills
  • Excellent knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology, including application of quality and root cause analysis principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment as they pertain to diesel
    engine applications
  • Functional knowledge of diesel engines, components, process electronics and related technologies
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving ability involving complex systems
  • Excellent organizational, planning, and follow-up skills
  • Strong oral, written and presentation communication skills
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Ability to travel - domestic and international
  • Proficient with PC and MS Office Suite
  • Knowledge of Rolls-Royce Power Systems’ products, policies and procedures
  • Knowledge and experience with SAP
  • Knowledge of Windchill PLM and CAD viewing tools (CreoView)
  • Proficient with MS Office Visio and MS Project
